Compact Law was established in 1996, making it one of the earliest online UK legal information and documents sites around. They know what they're doing and what's required of you and your documents in court, and this is reflected in the extensive amount of information that is available on the site. In particular there is a focus on packs, which are essentially collections of necessary documents and guidelines you may need for any particular venture.  

The packs tend to revolve around running businesses, making this site particularly useful to anyone who is thinking of setting up a business or for anyone who has an established company but wants to make sure their workplace documents are ship shape and above board.  

Individual documents can be purchased, often costing around £10 each (although this does vary so please check the site for exact prices), but the packs seem to offer greater value for money. They really are suited more towards companies than individuals though, except perhaps the landlord pack, which may be of use if you're looking to rent a property. These packs include detailed guides, as well as the various document templates you're likely going to need to run a business. They cover all areas from the workplace to human resources, health and safety to general business management.   

For an extra fee you can get legal support included in your pack. This allows you to download a pack or order a physical CD, plus 12 months support. This legal support covers questions about the documents, explanations of clauses, advice on altering clauses or removing clauses. However, there's a lot that isn't included so it's a good idea to check out what does and doesn't come along with the pack. Basically, if you think you'll need some help in understanding the forms, their language and the laws that coincide with the documents, then it might be a good idea to pay the extra fee for this support. If you do think you'll need this legal support then it's important that you make this clear when you make a purchase as existing customers are not able to upgrade their package at a later date.  

The packs aside, there's a lot of free information on the site which anyone might make use of. This includes articles and a blog with topics ranging from HMRC copycat warnings, to debates on issues such as low pay and the national minimum wage. No doubt this will be of great interest to business leaders who wish to keep on their toes with regard to current trends and public opinions. There's also information for employees who are having trouble at work, so CompactLaw.co.uk may be worth visiting if you feel you have been unfairly dismissed or need to file any documents regarding workplace problems.  

The site itself is pretty bland but it does include a search feature, which is good news because it can be a little hard to locate the exact information you need without searching. If you can cope with its somewhat dry shop front then this site has plenty to offer its users. It's better suited to start up businesses than any other clientèle but the fact that it provides free information means that it could be a useful resource for a greater audience.
