Editor's Review:

DIYlegals.co.uk doesn't inspire confidence through its name, but the basic premise is that you can create, edit and develop your own legal documents, hassle free. The price certainly seems right, with single documents starting from as little as £10, and two packages available for anyone who wants to create a whole bunch of forms over the year. However, the website developers need to get their tools back out of storage because the site simply doesn't work properly. It's disappointing as we had high hopes for this site. On the surface it looks to be a simple but well organised service that offers a limited range of documents for personal and business law issues.

Browsing the site you'll also discover plenty of information on each document that is available, with a fairly extensive description of what each form is for and how you might use it. this is all well and good, but as soon as we tried to add any of these forms to our basket we hit a snag: nothing happened.  That's right, we couldn't actually buy any forms or even take a look at a sample. In fact, there were a number of links that just didn't lead anywhere, even links that suggested we click on them to “find out more”.

Little glitches around the site also diminished any of the good work done by the layout and length descriptions provided. Essentially we were interested in trying out the system, but it just lay there like a dead duck, eyes glazed and with a blank look on its face, completely unresponsive.

The site also claims to provide legal advice, including assistance in finding a suitable solicitor to help you out. All well and good, except that this consists only of a short article on how they'll help but without really offering any tangeable information on what the process involves.

Meanwhile, DIYlegals offers a search option, sign up and log in but none of these would function when we tried them. Okay, this might be a temporary and unfortunate set of glitches but it really doesn't help if you're looking for a quick solution, particuarly since there are so many other decent legal forms sites without these troubles. It's a real shame because the prices on offer seemed very competitive. If you're as stuck as we were then you can send an email to the team and request more information, but given the current state of the site, we're not convinced it's worth the effort.
