Simply-docs is a popular site for downloading legal documents, but if you're in need of professional assistance and want to make sure that your documents completely comply with legal requirements then you may wish to shop elsewhere. However, for cheap (or free) documents and document bundles, it's hard to beat in terms of price.

The site primarily focuses on selling packs of documents which come under various categories. For example, you can get a health and safety pack, an employment pack, corporate pack or property pack for just £35 (plus VAT). Your payment allows you to access any document in the pack you have purchased, for up to 12 months. You'll be hard pushed to find a cheaper offer on the internet, from what we've seen. You can also opt to access all of the business documents, or every document on the site for an additional fee. This is great for anyone who is starting up or running a business who wants to access a wide range of documents throughout the year.  

Despite having a wide range and being frequently updated we just couldn't give the documents on simply-docs a high score because the site made no comment on whether or not the documents had been produced by trained solicitors. As such you may find that a document you're using, however legitimate it might be, doesn't necessarily stand up to legal scrutiny. This might not be such a big issue if the site offered superior customer services but unfortunately you can only contact customer services via email, telephone or post. Whilst this provides several options, we've not been convinced that you'll be speaking to a trained solicitor on the other end of the phone.   

It's fairly likely and reasonable to assume that the commonly used documents are fair game and shouldn't cause you any problems. People wouldn't be returning to the site and using them frequently if they just didn't hold any water in court. However, the guidance on filling in each form is non existent so you'll need a basic idea of what to include. Thankfully samples are provided so you should be able to get a feel for the sorts of things that might be written, but law isn't always as simple as parroting or reinterpreting existing text.  

Simply-Docs.co.uk will be very useful to anyone who already has a decent enough idea of how to fill in the documents to suit their purposes. The number and variety of its documents (even free ones) is admirable and you ought to be able to find something that suits you. In fact, it's always worth checking whether or not the document you need is available in the “free” section of the site before deciding to pay for it elsewhere. You never know what you'll find and you can always use the samples as a guide to filling them in. Plus there is advice on filling in forms elsewhere online. So it's going to take a bit of detective work to get the most out of this site, if you decide to use it, but it ought to save you quite a lot of money in the long run.
